LeXander Bryant — “Forget Me Nots”

In his debut solo museum exhibition, LeXander Bryant delves into themes such as resilience, familial bonds, memory preservation, community engagement, and the significance of Black experiences. The centerpiece features a suspended cracked concrete slab adorned with blue forget-me-not flowers, a nod to Tupac Shakur's poem "The Rose That Grew from Concrete." This symbolizes the importance of remembering one's history and celebrates growth amidst adversity. The exhibition, titled "Forget Me Nots," showcases large-scale studio photographs capturing solitary moments, a "memory wall" of community-based images, and wheatpaste posters with affirming messages countering harmful narratives. Additionally, a film composed of documentary-style footage offers insights into Bryant's creative practice and highlights his collaborations with local creatives. Through this diverse body of work, Bryant invites viewers to reflect on their own legacies while engaging critically with the past.
